DIAT Convocation 2025: 298 Graduates Honoured, 18 Gold Medals Awarded

Pune: The 14th DIAT Convocation of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune, marked a significant milestone in the institute’s mission to drive indigenous defence innovation and academic excellence.

Held in the presence of Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, and Chairman of the DIAT Governing Council, the DIAT Convocation ceremony celebrated the achievements of 298 graduates – 206 M.Tech, 68 MSc, and 24 Ph.D. recipients – across diverse defence-related disciplines. A total of 18 gold medals were awarded for academic excellence.

Located near the serene Khadakwasla Lake, DIAT operates directly under the Ministry of Defence, offering advanced degrees in engineering and sciences with a focus on strengthening national security and self-reliance.

The institute spearheads R&D in advanced sensing, radar, quantum technologies, laser and optical systems, AI, cybersecurity, mechanical and aerospace systems, and weapon systems for DRDO and the armed forces.

DIAT Convocation 2025: Graduates Should Contribute as Frontline Entrepreneurs

In his address at the DIAT Convocation 2025 ceremony, Dr Kamat congratulated the graduates and urged them to embrace cutting-edge technologies, innovate in defence manufacturing, and contribute as frontline entrepreneurs to realise Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He lauded DIAT’s progress in fostering an ecosystem for indigenous technological development and commended the faculty and staff for their dedication to research and skill development.

Recent academic achievements include the launch of an M Tech programme in Industrial Systems Engineering for L&T Defence Officers in July 2024 and the upcoming introduction of a specialization in Model-Based Systems Engineering for working professionals from July 2025.

Additionally, the Departments of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Applied Physics have received NBA accreditation, reaffirming DIAT’s academic quality standards.

With strong industry-academia collaborations and a commitment to technological self-reliance, DIAT continues to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s next generation of defence technologists.
